Police have released Kiiza Besigye, the leader of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). Besigye was released at about 5:26pm yesterday from Kasangati police station where he was held since morning under preventive arrest.
Besigye was picked up this morning along Nabugabo road during his attempt to walk to work.
Shortly after being released from Kasangati police station, Besigye flashed the FDC V sign sending his supporters in jubilations. Besigye was received from the cells by Salaamu Musumba, the FDC vice president and Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda, Kyadondo East Member of Parliament. He jumped into a waiting car registration number UAN 773F and drove off towards Kasangati town council.
However, his car was surrounded by his jubilating supporter demanding that Besigye walks with them. Besigye decided to shoot up through the roof top of the vehicle and started waving to the supporters. He drove through Kasangati town council to unknown destination.
Earlier on, Andrew Kaweesi, Kampala Metropolitan police Commander had told opposition Members of parliament that Besigye will only be released after denouncing the walk to work protests.
