FDC claims Besigye assassination plot; Police call allegations political ploy

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party claims that there is an assassination plot to its party president Kizza Besigye.

Salamu Musumba, told a press conference on Thursday that the alleged assassination has been sanctioned by the  Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura.

She cited the recent raid on Besigye’s home by a group of unknown people as one of the attempts to eliminate the FDC party president.

Musumba also claims that on August 10th,  an assassin emerged from a minivan registration number UP 1931 tand allegedly pulled the trigger but the bullet missed Dr. Besigye in Masaka.

Musumba who was flanked by the FDC Secretary for Defence, John Kazoora, his deputy Salim Angoliga, said such plans were being orchestrated by Kale Kayihura, Maj. Gen. David Tinyefunza, Col. Ronnie Balya and Col. James Mugira of CMI.

However Musumba warned the security guru that they would be held personally liable for Dr. Kizza Besigye’s death.

Musumba described the ‘Walk to Work’ strategy as having achieved its objective to expose how low the NRM government can sink to remain in power.

She also alleged that her party has learnt that there are plans to let Dr. Besigye walk to work and assassinate him in the process.

Asked to comment on the party’s next plan of action, Musumba said the party’s main concern now is to push Government to understand that Dr. Besigye has rights and to understand the essence of preventive arrest.

According to Salaamu Musumba they had tried to meet the Kampala Metropolitan Police Chief Andrew Kaweesi but failed to secure a meeting.

Preventive detention Kaweesi says prevents a person from committing crime, prevent other people from attacking him or prevent the person from committing a crime.

Kaweesi dismissed the assassination claims as an attempt to buy political sympathy.
