The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party leader, Kizza Besigye, is being detained at Kasangati Police Station, according to his lawyer David Mpanga.
Besigye was arrested this morning shortly after he once again pulled out a walk to work attempt. He was intercepted along Nabugabo Road and driven off to an unknown destination.
Salim Angulika, the FDC head of security had earlier told journalists that Besigye was being driven to the CID headquarters in Kibuli for questioning. But about two hours later, Besigye’s lawyer said that his client was being held at Kasangati Police station.
Mpanga, who was driving to Kasangati Police Station, said that he was not yet aware of the charges being leveled against Besigye.
Judith Nabakooba, the police spokesperson has confirmed that Besigye was being held at Kasangati Police station, but refused to divulge any further details.
Nabakooba said she will issue a statement later.
The arrest of Besigye comes a few days after he successfully challenged his detention under preventive arrest. Last Week, Kasangati magistrate’s court ruled his intention illegal.
