The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party deputy secretary general, Richard Towdong was on Saturday night injured by a bullet around Karuma falls.

Security in Gulu district says Todwong was injured in accident with his own personal security weapon. They say the incident happened at about 10pm evening after Karuma Falls as he drove home.

“His pistol accidentally went off from his pocket and bruised his left leg. Fortunately, it did not affect his bones,” a source within NRM party in Gulu who visited Towdong from Gulu independent Hospital said on phone.

Captain Santos Okot Lapolo, Gulu resident district commissioner added that there was no assignation attempt as alleged. “It was an accident with his personal weapon. For details of what, when and how, ask your other sources,” he said adding that the matter has not been reported to Police.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Police Spokesperson declined to comment on the matter saying “we should contact Towdong ourselves.

All his known phone numbers however could not be reached.

According to the NRM source who preferred anonymity because of seniority, Todwong was flown to Kampala for further treatment on the request of his brother Maj. Gen. Charles Otema Awany, the commander of Reserve forces.

A photograph of Todwong circulating on social media indicate his left leg bandaged in two different areas.
