Uganda League Champions KCCA FC have been drawn to Egyptian side El Masry in the second round of the 2017 CAF Total Confederation Cup.
After bowing out in the first round of the CAF Total Champions League to reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, KCCA FC will now have a chance in the lower tier Championship with a chance to make it to the group stage.
The draws were made in Cairo on Tuesday with KCCA FC starting with a home game between April 7-9, while the return leg will be played April 14-16 in Egypt. “It is always tough playing against teams from North Africa, but we shall prepare well for them,” assistant coach Morley Byekwaso told our reporter on phone.
In-case KCCA FC eject the Egyptian team they will qualify for the group stage of the Confederations Cup. KCCA FC will however play without defender Joseph Ochaya who has signed a two year contract with Zambia’s Lusaka Dynamos FC. “He played his last game for us last weekend against Sundowns,” Club CEO, David Tamale told our reporter.
Tanzanian side Young Africans will also be up against AMC Alger (Algeria), while Rwanda’s Rayon Sports take on Rivers United (Nigeria). The defending champions TP Mazembe of Dr Congo will battle JS Kabylie (Algeria). Platinum Stars of South Africa who ejected Uganda’s Vipers SC last weekend will face AS Tanda.
