Kiprotich set for Hamburg Marathon

The 2012 Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich is listed to take part in the 2017 Hamburg Marathon slated for April 23. The Hamburg Marathon is one of Germany’s most popular marathons, arguably ranking second behind the Berlin Marathon.

Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) confirmed to our reporter on Wednesday that Kiprotich will be the only Ugandan in the event.

Kiprotich who won gold in marathon at the 2012 London Olympics said he already started preparing for the event. “I used the just ended World Cross Country Championship in Kampala to work on my speed,” he added.

The runner, a Uganda Prisons Officer said that after coming 14th at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, he is hungry to try and work hard to perform better this season. “I am preparing really well and hope to be at my best when I travel to Germany,” he added.

Ethiopia duo of Tesfaye Abera and Meselech Melkamu who the men’s and women’s Hamburg Marathon last year.

Kiprotich who finished in 17th place in the just concluded World Cross Country Championship in Kampala pulled out of the 2016 Delhi Half Marathon last November.
