Lamwo farmer shot dead by unknown assailants

Unknown assailants have shot dead a farmer in Lamwo district. The deceased is identified as Bosco Okwera, a 46-year old resident of Lawiye Oduny village in Madi Opei Sub County.

It is alleged that he was attacked by three men armed with an AK47 rifle, arrows and bows. They stormed his home at about midnight and dragged him out of his house. He was shot moments later at a distance of about 40 Meters from the home.

Police suspects the gunmen were from neighboring South Sudan. The deceased had a relationship with a woman who was previously married to a South Sudanese National. The woman, Filder Acayo has since been arrested to aid police in its investigations, according to Aswa River Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema.

Proliferation of light weapons along Uganda – South Sudan border remains a major concern as they are frequently sighted in crimes along the porous borderline.

Last month, another man identified as Patrick Omoya was killed in Imatong state in South Sudan after he had crossed for business through Ngom Oromo border point in Lukung Sub County.
