The planned rallies by the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party Presidential Candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye to sensitise Isingiro residents on land matters have flopped.
The rallies failed to take place after police intercepted Besigye at a check point at Ruborogota-Kitwe road on his way to Kajaho trading center in Kikagate Sub County where he was expected to address the first rally under his “My land, My life” campaign.
He was expected to address four other rallies at different venues in the district. After intercepting Besigye, Police diverted him to Kikagate in Kitwe Sub County in Ntungamo district and later to Mbarara district.
Police led by the Rwizi Region Police Commander, Robert Walugembe escorted the former FDC leader who was in the company of Francis Mwijukye, the Buhweju MP and FDC Women league Chairperson Ingrid Turinawe, to his home in Kasangati in Wakiso district.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson told this publication they decided to escort Besigye when he defied orders not to proceed to Isingiro district.
He says the other leaders like Stanley Katembeya, the Western Region FDC Party Chairman and Eric Baino, the Secretary for mobilisation and the Elderly were picked up from Kikagate Sub County for mobilizing people to attend an illegal gathering.
By the time of filing this story, Katembeya and Baino were still in custody at Isingiro police station and were yet to record statements. The FDC party members who had turned up for the meeting had also dispersed to their homes.
