City socialite, Bryan White Kirumira and his co-accused Thomas Okoth, a police constable are out on bail. The two are charged with attempted murder.
They appeared Monday morning before the Makindye Chief Magistrate, Elias Kakooza who granted cash bail of Shillings 10 million. Each of their sureties executed a non-cash bond of Shillings 20 million.
Kakooza directed Bryan White to deposit his passport with court and directed him not to leave the country until his case is disposed of. “You are not to leave the country before this case has been disposed,” Kakooza ruled. Brian White applied for bail on grounds of ill health.
Prosecution alleges that on December 11th, 2017, the two unlawfully attempted to cause the death of Victor Bitwire contrary to section 204 of the Penal Code Act. Bitwire was shot on the shoulder outside Brian White’s home in Bunga, a Kampala suburb.
Brian White was arrested from IHK where he had taken Bitwire for medical care. Police recovered a firearm belonging to the force, which is believed to have been used to shoot Bitwire. The case will come up for mention on January 31st 2018.
