Woman, daughter killed by lightning in Kanungu district
A woman and her daughter stuck dead by lightning in Kanungu district in Uganda

A woman and her daughter were on Tuesday stuck dead by lightning in Kanungu district.

The incident reportedly occurred last evening at around 7pm.

The deceased have been identified as Peninah Katushabe, a resident of Bujengwe village, Karangara parish in Kayonza Sub County and her daughter, Rachel Turyakira, 15, a student of Kihihi Vocational Centre in Kihihi town council.

One of the family members says that lightning stuck Katushabe while she was inside the house, while Turyakira was struck while washing sandals outside the house.

The Police spokesperson for Kigezi Region, Elly Maate says that all the victims died on spot.

According to Maate, the incident occurred during a heavy downpour. Maate said Turyakira was preparing to return back to the institute after the Easter celebrations.

Maate also says that the bodies of the deceased are lying at Kambuga hospital for postmortem.

On 13th March 2018, lightning struck dead a pupil at Kahumure Primary School in Bukimbiri Sub County, Kisoro District. Five others were also injured during the heavy downpour.
