Stephen Kiprotich finishes 5th in Hamburg marathon

The 2012 London Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich has finished fifth at the 2018 Haspa Hamburg Marathon that ended on Sunday morning.

Kiprotich who was second at the same event last year finished in a time of 2:07:57. The race was dominated by Ethiopian athletes won finished in the top three places.

Solomon Deksisa won the race in a time of 2:06:34. while Abate Tadu and Abshero Ayele were second and third respectively. Kenya’s Solomon Yego finished in fourth place in a time of 2:07:37.

The 29-year old skipped the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia to focus on the Haspa Hamburg Marathon. ” Finishing fifth for Kiprotich is a good start to the new season. We are confident he will keep improving through the season,” Dominic Otuchet, chairman of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told this publication.

Kiprotich won a gold medal for Uganda at the 2012 London Olympics after the last gold medal for the country had been won in 1972 by John Akii Bua.
