In a bid to ensure the safety of worshipers, West Buganda Diocesan Council has issued guidelines on overnight prayers.
The first council of the Diocesan Assembly of 2018-2021 term which convened on Friday at Kako Senior Secondary School in Masaka district, noted with concern the continued cases of kidnaps and murders in different parts on the country.
The diocesan council comprises of Archdeacons, heads of boards and committees and Bishop’s representatives in the diocese.
Rev. Henry Katumba Tamale, the Bishop of West Buganda diocese, says that the council resolved that priests should first seek security presence at their places of worship and not allow worshippers to leave before the end of the prayers.
Bishop Katumba also encouraged Christians to dedicate special prayers to the country which will bring an end to cases of murder and kidnap.
Rev. Amos Friday, the priest of Masaka Archdeaconry, says the guidelines are a wake-up call for them to address existing security gaps in the churches.
