The driver to Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine was on Monday evening shot dead in Arua town.

According to information from the DP President General Nobert Mao, the driver of Bobi Wine, Kawooya Yasin was shot dead at Hotel Pacific in Arua town, the base of Kassiano Wadri.

Bobi said in a tweet on Monday night that “Police have shot my driver dead thinking they’ve shot at me.”

Chaos ensued shortly after Wadri and Bobi Wine who were having their last campaigns at Arua prisons, left on foot for their hotel but had an encounter with supporters of Nusura Tiperu, the NRM flag bearer who was from her rally at Arua hill grounds with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Details of the shooting have not been established as chaos ensued all over Arua town shortly after 5pm.

Some unconfirmed reports indicate that UPDF soldiers who came to clear the way for the NRM supporters to match to their offices started shooting live bullets, canning people and shooting tear gas towards the opposition supporters.

Meanwhile another supporter of Wadri, an independent candidate was also shot and is admitted at Oli Health center four.

The victim, a young man whose identity could not be established was shot on the leg and started bleeding before he was rushed by sympathizers to Oli health center in Arua Municipality.

Efforts to get comments from the police spokesperson, DPC, RPC and other security yielded no positive results as they could not pick their calls.

Nine candidates are in the race to replace slain MP Ibrahim Abiriga.
