Police is investigating circumstances under which the office of the Nebbi National Resistance Movement (NRM) District Chairperson was burnt.

At 4:30 am, a group of unidentified people raided the office of George Kermudu located on Oring Road opposite the District Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) offices in Nebbi Town and started fire.

According to Mustapha Muwanga one of the employees of Kermudu, the security personnel attached to the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) deployed to guard the office were asleep when the unidentified people brought tyres and set them ablaze at the entrance of the offices.

“They were woken up by smoke and immediately rushed to stop the fire before it spread into the offices. They fired two bullets to disperse the people who had started the fire,” Muwanga says.

Police was immediately called in and arrested four people suspected to have been part of the group.

However, this publication has learnt that some of the people arrested were truck drivers who had come to witness the attempted arson.

The police spokesperson West Nile Region Josephine Angucia has confirmed the incident.

“That incident occurred very early morning and we have arrested some people. Investigations are however on-going,” Angucia said.

Military personnel from Bondo Military barracks were sent to the scene of crime to assess the situation.
