The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has listed several Committees of Parliament that have failed to deliver on their assignments on time.
She noted with concern the delay by the Committees to complete their work yet at the start of the third session of parliament, the legislators promised to change their mode of operation.
The other committees that have delayed to deliver their assignments include the Committee on Gender that has delayed the Minimum Wages bill 2015 by over 700 days; Committee on Finance has delayed the investment code bill, retirement’s benefits liberalization bill and excise duty bill.
The Committee of trade is late by 500 days on the Wildlife bill, Committee on legal is late on administration of judiciary bill late by 49 days and sexual offenses bill. She disclosed that Parliament has developed an application to track the work of Members of Parliament in committees.
According to Kadaga, the application will also inform the public on the work of committees detailing which committee is failing to meet its deadline and responsibilities. She says if a committee is late for instance, a notice will be put up on the application for the public to see.
Kadaga told the committee members to ensure that they work adequately to complete their tasks so that parliament doesn’t waste its time.
She however, didn’t disclose how the app will work and how it will be accessible to the public.
