The family of a herdsman who was allegedly tortured to death have rejected condolences from the suspect.
Richard Kiboneka, a lawyer from Nyanzi, Kiboneka and Mbabazi Company Advocates is alleged to have hired five men who tortured his herdsman James Kalemera to death.
It’s alleged that Kiboneka wanted Kalemera to confess the whereabouts of seven heads of cattle.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Kiboneka’s farm located at Kayonza village in Butuntumula Sub County, Luweero district.
On Tuesday Kiboneka using his mobile phone number 0772493966 sent one million shillings using mobile money to the uncle of the deceased Godfrey Bizimungu.
However, when Bizimungu told the family and mourners about the money from Kiboneka, they unanimously rejected the condolences.
On Wednesday, the family led by Salim Zimula Kakabala Parish Councillor at Butuntumula sub-county council went to Charles Kusingura the Luweero District Criminal Investigations Department seeking advice on the next course of action.
Zimula said that it was inhumane to accept condolences from the prime suspect.
Our reporter has learnt that Charles Kusingura the Luweero District Criminal Investigations Department has directed Kalemera’s family to withdraw the money and take it to police as an exhibit to back up the murder case against Kiboneka.
Paul Kangave the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson says that the police have preferred charges of murder against Kiboneka and five others.
The murder case is being investigated on file LWR CRB 716/2018.
Kalemera was laid to rest at his ancestral home at Kibaaga village in Butuntumula Sub County in Luweero district on Tuesday.
A post-mortem investigation conducted at Mulago Hospital in Kampala city established that Kalemera died of suffocation after he was tied for several hours and then tortured to death.
Kiboneka is yet comment or appear at Luweero Central Police Station over the case.
