A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to 45 years imprisonment for defilement.
Court presided over by Masaka High Court Judge Winifred Nabisinde heard that Jackson Bulenzi committed the offence on 26th September 2015 at Lwenkakala Village, in Lwengo Sub County, Lwengo district.
Prosecution led by Ivan Nkasibwe the Masaka Resident State Attorney told court that Bulenzi took the advantage of the absence of the victim’s parents who had gone to the garden and defiled her.
The prosecution presented 6 witnesses who all testified against Bulenzi.
Bulenzi pleaded guilty to the charges but asked court to give him a lesser sentence since he has health complications.
However, Nkwasibwe asked court to give Bulenzi a long custodial sentence so that he can serve as an example to other men who sexually assault minors and people with disabilities.
Nabisinde agreed with the prosecution. He said that the society has to be protected from people like Bulenzi who violate children’s right.
Justice Nabisinde told court that the long custodial sentence to Bulenzi will keep him away from society as he reflects on the crime he committed.
