National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Wakiso District are plotting for the creation of four more municipalities in the district. The suggested municipalities include Wakiso, Kyengera, Kajjansi and Kasangati.

Wakiso district NRM chairperson Hajji Abdul Kiyimba says that the areas have developed and have all the requirements to be elevated from the current status. Kiyimba states that they are mobilizing leaders in the said areas to fast-track the proposals following the required procedures.

He points out that the procedure to that effect in areas like Kyengera where he is the reigning LC III chairperson is already in high gear.

Kiyimba trashed arguments that the development is intended to create more electoral areas within the district for the benefit of their own people.

However, Wakiso District Chairperson Matia Lwanga Bwanika says Wakiso needs to attain a city status and not small administrative units.

Bwanika, however, acknowledges that there are some areas within Wakiso which are due to be elevated to the next level of administration. He singled out Wakiso Sub County which he says he is fit to be a fully-fledged town council since it produces most of the revenue resources which sustain the entire district.

Wakiso district has four municipalities which include Entebbe, Kira, Nansana and Makindye Ssabagabo.
