Six radio stations in Mbale Municipality are off air over none payment of licenses and technical problems, this publication has learnt.
The six radio stations which are off air include; Impact FM, Signal FM, Masaba FM, Ebenezer FM, Gold FM and Time FM.
Our reporters visited some of the affected Radio Stations and found some staffs who had reported for work while others had nobody.
A source at Gold FM who declined to be named because he is not the spokesperson noted that Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) put them off air over none payments.
He noted that UCC came with a statement of invoice of none payment.
“We have written a complain to UCC over their unfairness,” he explained.
He added that UCC is demanding Gold Fm only revenue for this year. “We have never defaulted why switch us off air,” he lamented.
Manager Masaba FM, identified as Suleiman Wakida told our reporter that they had a technical problem with their transmitter since last Friday.
Ibra Musasi, the Manager Time FM, told our reporter that they went off air one week and half back before other radio stations were switched off.
Annet Nadegwe, Manager Signal FM told our reporter on phone that they have a technical mechanical problem up in Bwalasi.
Nadegwe declined knowledge over UCC switching off Signal FM Radio.
At Impact FM , when our reporter visited the Station twice, the in-charge only identified as Isaiah could not reach for a comment about the Radio being off Air because he was ever busy on phone.
One of the Radio Presenters in Mbale who declined to be identified accuses UCC for switching off their radio Station yet UCC wants them to ran some free adverts and talk shows.
However, getting a comment from PRO UCC Ibrahim Bbosa was fruitless as he repeatedly refused to pick up his known phone number.
Last week, UCC also switched off three radio stations in Soroti including Voice of Teso, Kyoga Veritas and Delta FM for none payment of licence fees.
