Three entertainment spots in Uganda under investigations over child porn
A representative on the Pornographic Control Committee, says they received information from a whistle blower that the three entertainment spot stage nude shows involving teenagers.

Three entertainment spots in Luweero town council are being investigated by the Uganda Police Force and Pornography Control Committee for promoting child pornography.

They are Big Up Club, Digital Pub and Executive Bar. The three entertainment spots are accused of staging nude shows involving young performers in violation of the Anti-Pornographic Act 2014.

Section 14 of the Anti-Pornography Act provides that any person who produces, participates in the production of, traffic in, publishes, broadcasts, procures, imports, exports or in any way abets pornography depicting images of children commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding seven hundred and fifty currency points or imprisonment not exceeding fifteen years or both.

The said shows are allegedly staged past midnight on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Hafisa Kabaganja Abbooki, a representative on the Pornographic Control Committee, says they received information from a whistle blower that the three entertainment spot stage nude shows involving teenagers.

Kabaganja says they have met and shared information with Police and asked them to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

Phoebe Namulindwa, the Luweero Resident District Commissioner, says they deployed detectives at the entertainment spots who confirmed the nude shows.

She said the managers of the entertainment spots will be summoned to defend themselves.

Bosco Otim, the Savannah Regional Police Commander, says Police is also planning to conduct raids to apprehend the managers of the entertainment spots and nude show performers to face the law.

John Ssegujja, the Director Digital Pub denies accusations of staging nude shows at his pub, saying this could be a ploy by his rivals to destroy his business.

The directors of the other pubs couldn’t be reached for comment.

As children engage in nude shows, they are exposed to risky behavior such as unprotected sex leading to the escalation of HIV/AIDS infections.

A recent survey by conducted by Luweero District Health Department and Makerere University School of Public health revealed that HIV Prevalence rate in Luweero town stands at 25.2 % higher than the 7.2% in the district.

Innocent Nkonwa, the Luweero District Health Officer explains that the survey indicated that one of four people found in hot spots in Luweero town are HIV positive.

Nkonwa says the prevalence rate in Luweero town is attributed to long distance truck drivers plying the Kampala-Gulu highway.

The drivers in Luweero and visit entertainment places where revelers engage in unprotected sex.
