UHRC signs memorandum with Journalists

The Uganda Human Rights Commission signed a five year memorandum of understanding with journalists in the country.

The memorandum involved training journalists on international human rights reporting and effective dissemination of information.

Meddie Kagwa, the chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission told reporters on Monday in Kampala  that the memorandum of understanding would also help the human rights body strengthen its ties with local journalists in monitoring human rights activities in the country.

George Mwesigye, the Uganda Human Rights Commission secretary added that efforts shall be geared towards capacity building, and technical advice and support towards areas that shall be agreed upon by the two parties.

Joshua Kyalimpa, the President Uganda Journalists Association said journalists in the country have been challenged to report on human rights even in areas that affect them.

The three page document is to be renewed after five years.
