Top athlete Stephen Kiprotich has said Team Uganda is hungry to win medals when the 2017 World Cross Country Championship takes place at the Kololo Independence ground on Sunday afternoon.
The 2012 Olympic marathon gold medalist who is part of the Ugandan team said they know it will not be easy against some top sides, but they are determined to perform well.
Team Uganda captain Timothy Toriotich also told this publication that they are also very prepared to put up a good show and win the medals. “We are the hosts and we need to prove a point by performing well,” added the captain.
But the World Cross Country defending champion from Kenya Geoffrey Kamworor said he is feeling the pressure ahead of Championship.
“I know this event will be tight. But it will cross country competition will offer him the required endurance to jump start his season,” he added.
He said his target is to defend his title he won in Guiyang, China. “My body feels great and I cannot wait to hit that trail in Kampala,” he added.
The newly introduced mixed relay will open the Championship at 2pm, before the U-20 women’s championship takes center stage. The other races lined up include; U-20 men, Senior women, Senior men and the mass race.
