Ten killed in Mityana in last one month - Uganda Police

At least 10 people have been killed in Mityana district in the last one month. The victims include six women, three men and a one and half-year-old baby.

The victims were killed by either strangulation or being hit by a blunt object on the head. Their bodies were found in villages in Myanzi, Bikers, Maanyi, Kikandwa sub-counties and Ssekanyonyi town council.

Norbert Ochom, Wamala Region police spokesperson, says the bodies are transported from the crime scene and dumped far away. Preliminary investigations reveal that the assailants could be hiring vehicles to transport and dispose off the bodies of their victims.

He however, says they are yet to find clues on the assailants and also establish whether or not the killings are connected. However, just like the Katabi and Nansana killings, police says some of the women could be victims of the crime of passion.

Unlike the Wakiso killings, there hasn’t been evidence showing that the women were sexually abused. Ochom says they have intensified community policing all over the region to stem the killings.

“We are involving all the local leaders in sensitizing the different communities on security issues, mob justice, on land related crimes and domestic violence because these are some of the issues that cause problems if ignored. That is why we are concentrating on these and many other causes of crime,” Ochom said.
