Congo Brazzaville Premier League side AS Otoho has eliminated Uganda’s KCCA FC from the CAF Confederation Cup.
KCCA FC won 2-0 in the return leg played on a water logged StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo on Sunday as it rained heavily.
But the win was not enough as coach Mike Hillary Mutebi’s team bowed out 3-2 on goal aggregate. The Congo Brazzaville won the first leg 3-0 and KCCA FC needed to win by a bigger margin to qualify for the group stage.
KCCA FC scored second half goals through Patrick Henry Kaddu with heat header before youngster Allan Okello converted a penalty after 88 minutes.
AS Otoho will also have goalkeeper Wolfrigon Mongondza Ngobo to thank for putting up a good show keeping several shots at bay. Cabwey Mereves Kivutuka and Alou Bagayoko also kep the KCCA FC defenders busy.
“We are happy that we have qualified for the group stage. It has been a difficult match here because of the heavy rain that made the pitch very unpredictable,” AS Atoho’s captain Davy Dimitri Magnokele Bissiki told this publication after the match.
KCCA FC captain Timothy Dennis Awany said it was unfortunate they failed to make it to the group stage.
Mutebi’s team reached the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup in 2017 and the group stage of the 2018 CAF Champions League.
