Kampala, Uganda | URN | A young boy, who police has been searching for in the last two months, has finally been found at ReTrak Uganda, a child care centre. It has emerged that Success Mwesigwa, who disappeared from Little Angel Day and Boarding School in Kampala on October 16th this year, was picked by police and handed over to ReTrak.
His parents filed a case of his disappearance at Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) and tasked the school to produce their child. It came after the school called Mwesigwa’s parents inquiring whether he had returned home since he couldn’t be traced in the boarding section for two days.
The school also opened a case of a missing child. Police charged the school administration with failure to prevent a felony. A team of officers from the Flying Squad, Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU) was deployed to hunt for Mwesigwa’s whereabouts.
His parents have also been moving from one police station to another hoping to get information about his whereabouts. However, it was not until officers from the Child and Family Protection Unit scrutinised their records that they saw Mwesigwa’s name.
Records showed the child was picked by officers from CPS on the very day he disappeared from school and took him to CFPU hoping that his parents would show up in vain. As a result, CFPU handed the minor to an officer connected ReTrak.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that the boy was picked by officers from Kampala central police station. He, however, says there was confusion when the minor gave police the name of a school in Mpigi district.
“Good enough yesterday, we were able to get the whereabouts of this child. It is alleged that the day he disappeared, he was picked by officers of the central police station and taken to CPFU-CPS. He was from there taken to ReTrak Uganda Ltd. It is a home that rehabilitates street children and also abandoned kids. According to the people of Retrak and also CPS, the child gave them a name of the school and the name of the school the child gave them is in Mpigi. And when they reached there in Mpigi, the headmaster said he doesn’t know this child. So we had to keep the child until we had to know the real information about him,” said Owoyesigyire.
Mwesigwa has since been reunited with his parents in Kawempe Division in Kampala.
