3 myths about men’s underwear

Kampala, Uganda | By Krisna Garcia | Men’s underwear is something that doesn’t get talked about enough. It’s like that elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about. We get it! Men either don’t care to talk about it or they’re not comfortable doing so. However, so many men have issues finding the underwear style that is right for them. There are a variety of underwear styles that men can choose from:

  • Briefs
  • Boxer briefs
  • Trunks
  • Boxers shorts
  • Athletic
  • Jockstraps

As the list goes on, so do the reasons why men are always on the hunt for a new pair of underwear. Maybe you haven’t tried all options or found a style that fits you the best. We all want the same thing out of our undergarments- comfort and support.

After conducting some research, we found 3 of the biggest myths about men’s underwear which could be why you haven’t found your perfect pair. Well, don’t worry. We’ve broken down each myth so that you can be on your way to underwear utopia.

“Stick to What You’ve Always Known”

This is the biggest myth of them all. There is no reason you shouldn’t experiment with a variety of underwear styles. The reason so many are made is because everyone’s body types are made differently, and everyone lives different lifestyles.

The level of comfort you find from your underwear is based on what your days consist of, how long your legs are, and the level of support you’re looking for. Some men find that briefs are too tight where others feel like trunks are too baggy and offer no support.

It’s time to take charge and try on other pairs, brands, and sizes to find what’s best for you. Don’t be afraid to try something new even when it comes to your underwear.

“Briefs Can Be Harmful”

This is a huge misunderstanding. If at any point during the day or night you feel like your underwear is cutting off your circulation or is leaving inseam marks, then chances are you’re just wearing the wrong size. Briefs aren’t designed to be too tight.

They’re designed to offer support for those who are looking for maximum support without restricting their legs from movement. In addition to the concern about briefs being too tight, men have also expressed their concern that briefs don’t allow their underwear area to breathe causing a potential hazard for harsh temperatures which in turn can be a potential threat to their fertility.

This is another misconception and our response- Don’t knock it until you try it. These days briefs are made with breathable materials and fabrics that are designed to let in some air. The underwear style proposes no threat to this issue. Consider trying a pair of briefs for a day if your lifestyle is considered to be active or you need full movement in your legs. You might like that there’s nothing there to ride up.

“Men Shouldn’t Care About Their Underwear”

Men who don’t care about the undergarments they’re wearing don’t know what they’re missing out on. Caring about the underwear you’re wearing doesn’t mean you’re any less masculine.

Underwear is an undergarment that’s worn every single day by most men, so you deserve to find the right kind for you. A lot of men don’t realize it, but the style and look you’re trying to pull off for the day all starts with what’s underneath.
