Bugiri, Uganda | URN | The opposition Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] presidential candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat has been hospitalised Monday 28, December 2020 after being pepper-sprayed by police.
Amuriat was heading to Tororo district in eastern Ugandan through Bugiri district when police officers intercepted him in Buwaya village and blocked him from proceeding with today’s campaign program.
Amuriat’s supporters who waited along the streets protested the police move prompting police under the command of ASP Abraham Asiimwe to fire teargas to disperse them.
Amuriat had attempted to join his supporters in the procession but police personnel directly pepper-sprayed him in eyes before collapsing immediately. He was rushed to First-line Medical centre in Bugiri municipality.

FDC Bugiri Municipality parliamentary flag bearer, Eunice Namatende says that Amuriat is slowly recovering but they are organizing means of transferring him to a better health facility. Busoga East police spokesperson, James Mubi says that Amuriat was blocked from accessing Tororo.
“It was just a preventive arrest aimed at blocking Amuriat from accessing Tororo district,” Mubi said.
