Kampala, Uganda | URN | Uganda Police Force has said that the National Unit Platform [NUP] presidential candidate, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine is planning to kidnap himself and hide in one of the Embassies purposely to cause chaos.
Commissioner of Police Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson said they have received intelligence that Kyagulanyi intends to go into hiding in an Embassy after casting his vote and then spread false information that he has been grabbed by security agencies.
CP Enanga warned Kyagulanyi not to attempt his alleged move because security agencies are more than prepared for him.
Ugandans will cast their votes for President and Members of Parliament on Thursday 14th this week. Kyagulanyi is perceived as the biggest challenger to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who has been in power since January 26th, 1986.
Police arrested Kyagulanyi on November 18 last year at his campaign venue in Luuka district something that sparked countrywide protests.
Police and military highhandedly quashed the protests shooting 54 people dead and leaving scores injured.
CP Enanga said Kyagulanyi’s plan to hide is intended to cause a recurrence of the November incidents but security is more than ready to quash such riots.
UPDF spokesperson, Brig Flavia Byekwaso urged the public not to fear the heavy deployments in Kampala and various other towns.
Brig Byekwaso said the soldiers and other security personnel will ensure no disruptions are recorded during or after the voting exercise.
