Rukungiri, Uganda | URN | Rukungiri police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a senior four candidate of Rukungiri High School, a day to the completion of her Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams.
The deceased has been identified as Brenda Ankunda, a resident of Bugangari sub- county in Rukungiri district.
Her lifeless body was retrieved from Kahengye stream on Wednesday 31, March 2021 afternoon and taken to Rwakabengo health centre III mortuary for identification. According to family sources, the deceased left school to return home and prepare for her last paper on Thursday 1, April 2021.
When Ankunda’s family on Thursday went to police to report a missing person, they were shocked to learn that a body of unidentified woman which police had retrieved from the stream on Wednesday was that of their daughter.
The school headteacher Robert Mbasa says that they waited for the student to return and seat her Kiswahili paper in vain. “We sent Brenda home last week to prepare herself and come back for her last paper today. We waited up to 11:00 am and decided to contact her family members but they were also surprised that she left school on Monday evening,” the headteacher said.

Another family member said that after getting a phone call from the school administrators, they informed them that the student had left school on Monday evening.
Victor Arimpa, the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations at Rukungiri police told this publication that they have commenced investigations to establish how the student died.
