Masindi, Uganda | URN | Kinyara Health Centre III in Kabango town council, Masindi district has been closed after eight health workers tested positive for COVID-19.
The facility is located within Kinyara Sugar Works Company Limited premises and it serves the company workers and the neighboring communities.
Patrick Baguma, the Masindi District Health Officer (DHO) says that samples from the health workers were taken on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th, and all the eight samples turned positive for COVID-19 prompting the district COVID-19 task force to temporarily suspend operations at the health center to avoid further spread of the virus.
According to Baguma, three other members of the community neighboring the facility tested positive while three other cases were confirmed within Masindi town bringing to 14 the total number of active cases in the district.

Dr Enock Mbayo the Kinyara Health Centre III In-charge explains that the cases were registered during the routine mass testing of the health workers and other support staff at the health facility.
Rose Kobusinge Kirabira, the Masindi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) who is also the chairperson of district COVID-19 task force said following the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the district, there is a need to strictly resume enforcement of the COVID-19 standard operating procedures including night curfew.
