Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | The Uganda Police Force has recently publicized a recruitment drive aiming to enlist 2,500 probation constables.
According to a notice released on Tuesday 6, February 2024 by the Human Resource Director, AIGP Brig Jesse Kamunanwire, the police department is set to accept applications from eligible Ugandans between the ages of 18 and 23.
The application period is scheduled to commence Wednesday 7, February 2024, and will continue until Sunday 18, February 2024. Prospective candidates are encouraged to apply during this timeframe to be considered for the probation constable positions.
“The applicant must be a Ugandan citizen with a valid National ID, must have no criminal record. Should be ready to undertake the requisite 12 months police basic training and should be physically and medically fit,” states the advertisement.
AIGP Kamunanwire emphasizes that applicants should be willing to work extended hours, sometimes in challenging conditions and across various regions of the country, while also demonstrating strong communication skills.
Eligible candidates must not have a previous or current affiliation with any armed forces and should hold a senior four certificate or its equivalent, with a minimum of four credits, including English, and at least a pass in Mathematics.

The application process to join Uganda Police Force as probation constable requires handwritten applications addressed to the IGP, accompanied by certified copies of academic documents, a photocopy of the National Identity Card, three recent passport-sized photographs, an identity card or an introductory letter from the previous school, and recommendation letters from LCI, LCIII, and RDC (from the respective districts of recruitment) in a file folder.
These documents must be submitted to the Police district or divisional headquarters by no later than February 18, 2024.
Police however warns that impersonation or presentation of forged documents shall lead to arrest and prosecution in courts of law.
“Applicants who conceal or provide false information shall be disqualified. Female candidates are encouraged to apply.”
