Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has announced an extension of the deadline for applications for the roles of Census Enumerators and Supervisors for the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census 2024.
Initially scheduled for submission by March 15, 2024, applicants now have until March 22, 2024, to complete and submit their applications.
This extension was announced as an addendum to the original census advertisement published in both the New Vision and the Daily Monitor newspapers on March 4, 2024.
“Following the recently advertised jobs for the #UgandaCensus2024 Enumerator and Enumeration Supervisor positions, Management wishes to inform the general public that UBOS has extended the expiry date of receiving applications to the 22nd day of March 2024.”
UBOS posted the extension deadline on social media.

Concerns have emerged regarding the UBOS portal’s inability to accept academic credentials and other necessary documents as proof.
The bureau, however, has clarified that these documents will be required to be submitted and verified at the district level once applicants have been shortlisted.
Census Enumerator Responsibilities
As previously announced, UBOS is seeking to recruit a total of 114,460 enumerators and 18,483 supervisors to conduct the National Population and Housing Census scheduled for May 9 to 19, 2024.
Those recruited as enumerators will play a crucial role in the nationwide exercise. Their duties will include:
- Participating in pre-census groundwork such as mapping out village-based census areas.
- Engaging in door-to-door mobilization efforts to inform communities about the census.
- Collecting data on individuals, households, institutions, and communities within their assigned areas during the 10-day census period.
Qualifications for Enumerator Positions
Any Ugandan citizen between the ages of 18 and 50 is eligible to apply for an enumerator position. However, applicants must also meet the following criteria:
- Possess a minimum of an ‘A’ level certificate or its equivalent.
- Have a credit in both English and mathematics at the ordinary level (O’ level).
- Be recommended by local authorities in their respective Local Council 1 (LC 1) areas.
- Demonstrate good conduct, mental soundness, and fluency in the local languages spoken in their assigned enumeration areas.
- Possess basic computer application skills.
- Hold a valid National Identity Card issued by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).
According to UBOS Executive Director Chris Mukiza, a valid national identity card is crucial for the payment process.
“Those whose phone numbers are not registered in their names will not be paid,” Mr. Mukiza emphasized.
Furthermore, enumerators will be equipped with tablets to collect census data. Smartphones will also be provided as a backup option in case of technical issues with the tablets.
