Nairobi, Kenya | By Michael Wandati | Kenya’s President William Ruto has sent a message of goodwill to the Muslim community in the country as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday 10, April 2024.
Eid al-Fitr is the feast of breaking the month-long fast observed over the Holy month of Ramadan, is a joyous occasion celebrated by Muslims worldwide with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity, symbolizing gratitude, unity, and spiritual renewal.
Ramadan requires Muslims to fast from sunrise to sundown for a month to recall the revealing of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad.
“I join the people of Kenya in sending warm congratulations and the best wishes to the Muslim faithful across our nation as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr,” President William Ruto said in his message on Tuesday 9, April 2024 evening.
“May the Almighty accept the fasting, prayers, acts of charity and sacrifices that you have made over the past 30 days, and fortify you on your spiritual journey,” he added.
On Monday, the Head of State hosted Muslim leaders for Iftar, the inaugural meal to signify the breaking of the fast, at State House in Nairobi, Kenya, following reports that the crescent moon had not been sighted in Saudi Arabia.
Following this, on Tuesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki officially declared Wednesday, April 10, as a public holiday in observance of Eid al-Fitr.
President Ruto commended the discipline and dedication demonstrated by the Muslim community, emphasizing how it serves as a source of inspiration for people of all faiths to extend compassion, particularly towards the less fortunate.
He emphasized the importance of inter-faith understanding as a fundamental pillar fostering peace, love, and unity within Kenya.

“Eid ul Fitr is an opportunity for all communities of faith to stand in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters by demonstrating gratitude to Almighty God and benevolence to our fellow citizens,” Ruto said.
“Once again, I humbly request Muslims to continue offering prayers for the unity and prosperity of our nation. Finally, I wish you a blessed Eid ul Fitr, filled with happiness, love and harmony. Eid Mubarak!”
