Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | Kabalagala police have arrested two Eritrean nationals in connection with the death of their compatriot during a bar altercation. The victim, 30-year-old Hannibal Tewelde, an Eritrean refugee residing in Lukuli zone, Makindye Division, was fatally injured on Monday 9, July 2024 evening.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, identified the suspects as Siem Fustem and Henok Foto, both Eritrean refugees from the same locality. They are currently held at Katwe Police Station on murder charges.
Initial investigations by the police reveal that the incident occurred at My Place Bar, located in the A.D Plaza Apartment on Kibuli Road.
The trio was reportedly drinking when a dispute erupted, leading to Tewelde being struck on the head with a beer bottle, resulting in his collapse.

“The deceased was rushed to Nsambya Hospital for medical attention by the suspects. Upon their arrival, he was pronounced dead. The case was reported at Kabalagala Police Station,” Onyango said.
Police detectives from the homicide unit in Kabalagala visited the scene and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
The deceased’s body has been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
According to the 2023 police annual crime report, 4,366 murder cases were documented, averaging 12 deaths per day. The report highlights that assaults, mob actions, and strangulations were the leading causes of these fatalities.
