Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | President Museveni has issued a strong warning to the organizers of the anti-corruption march planned for next week, urging them to cancel their plans or face severe consequences.

“Some elements, especially the opposition are working with foreigners to ferment chaos in Uganda with illegal and inconsiderate processions. They should check themselves or we will have no alternative but to check them,” Museveni warned.

A group of activists has organized a an anti-corruption march to Parliament on Tuesday 23, July 2024 to express their discontent over corruption within the August House. The organizers are calling on the public to join them in this demonstration.

In a national address on Saturday 20 July, 2024, President Museveni criticized the planned protests, describing them as foolish attempts to undermine the accomplishments of “wealth creators.”

“This huge amount of food we eat is produced by us the wealth creators and everybody benefits. We are busy producing wealth and you here want to disturb us!  You are playing with fire. We cant allow you to disturb us,” Museveni said.

“When you hear people talking of demonstrations, when you do it in a place like Kampala where people are selling on the roadside, are you going to step in their products? You are playing. Don’t have such ideas in your head,” he added.

The president advised the organizers of the planned demonstration to use Kololo Independence Grounds for their protests and to choose a less busy day, such as Sunday.

He emphasized that protests cannot be allowed to disrupt people’s property and daily activities.
