Gen Muhoozi praises newly promoted officers for exemplary work

Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations has commended the newly promoted senior officers for for their unwavering dedication and remarkable contribution to national defence.

Speaking at the promotion ceremony held at Mbuya, where he served as the chief decorator, Gen. Muhoozi emphasized that promotions serve as acknowledgment of exceptional performance and dedication.

“I commend you for this deserving promotion,” Gen. Muhoozi said. “It is a recognition of your significant contributions to the nation’s defence and a testament to your potential. Your ability to navigate challenging situations has set a high benchmark for your followers.”

A fortnight ago, President Yoweri Museveni, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of Uganda’s armed forces, promoted 918 military officers in rank. This promotion included five Colonels elevated to Brigadier General, the fourth highest rank in the Ugandan military hierarchy.

Gen. Muhoozi reminded the newly promoted officers of the responsibilities and the expectations that come with the new ranks they have attained and said, “As you take upon your new rank and role, you not only carry the weight of greatness of the military but also the unwavering support and respect of your colleagues, subordinates, and family. The nation looks up to you and expects you to continue to serve with dedication.”

In the recent promotion wave, three Acting Colonels were officially confirmed in their positions, 15 Lieutenant Colonels were promoted to full Colonel, and three Acting Lieutenant Colonels were also confirmed.

Additionally, ten Majors were elevated to Lieutenant Colonel, 63 Captains rose to Major, 155 Lieutenants were promoted to Captain, and 650 Second Lieutenants were advanced to full Lieutenant.

During the ceremony, Brigadier General Wilberforce Sserunkuma, the highest-ranking officer among those promoted, expressed his appreciation to General Muhoozi for recommending their advancement to the Commander-in-Chief.

“I would like to appreciate your recommendation to the Commander in Chief for our promotion,” Brig Sserunkuma said. “We acknowledge the increased responsibility that comes with our new ranks. I urge my colleagues with who we have been promoted today to demonstrate greater determination and zeal in serving our country.”

The promotion ceremony was attended by several high-ranking military officials, including Lieutenant General Sam Okiding, the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces; Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of the Land Forces; Lieutenant General Okidi, Commander of the Air Force; and Major General Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Joint Staff.
