Uganda sets date for 2026 presidential, parliamentary elections

Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | On Wednesday, Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) unveiled an updated electoral timetable, revealing the schedule for the 2026 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Justice Simon Byabakama, the chairperson of the EC, announced that nominations for the elections will take place from September 17 to October 3, 2025.

The 2026 presidential and parliamentary campaigns are set to begin in the second week of October 2025, with the elections scheduled for January 12, 2026.

Justice Byabakama also indicated that the process of demarcating electoral areas and reorganizing polling stations will start in August 2024.

In the 2021 general elections, 11 candidates, including the then-incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, competed.

Mr. Museveni won re-election with 58.64% of the vote, defeating his main opponent, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), who received 34.83% of the vote.
