Kakamega, Kenya | By Michael Wandati | A police officer stationed in Kakamega County has been arrested following an altercation with a tuk-tuk crew along the Kakamega-Kisumu Road.
The officer, identified as Police Constable Nathan Bett, was initially deployed to maintain order at a court premises. After returning from his assignment, he submitted his Ceska pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition, raising concerns that led to further inquiry.
The police report reveals that during a scuffle with the tuk-tuk crew, Officer Bett discharged two rounds of ammunition. He claimed that the tuk-tuk crew refused to stop near the Kakamega Police Station gate, preventing him from alighting. Bett further stated that he believed the individuals had intentions to kidnap him, prompting him to fire in self-defense.
Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the shots hit a 28-year-old man, causing two gunshot wounds—one to the left shoulder and another that penetrated through the right collarbone and exited from the left.

The injured man was quickly taken to Mukumu Dispensary before being referred to Oasis Multispecialty Hospital in Kakamega for advanced treatment.
Officer Bett has since been taken into custody and is expected to face charges of attempted murder as investigations continue.
“The said officer has been arrested and placed in cell for attempting murder. Also action to be taken to the in charge armoury for issuing a Ceska to a member of other ranks,” the report read in part.
