U.S. Embassy in Uganda issues terror alert for Kampala, urges vigilance

Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | The United States Embassy in Uganda has issued a security warning, alerting American citizens to a heightened risk of terrorist activities in Kampala.

This cautionary message, though based on unverified information, advises U.S. nationals to remain particularly vigilant in public spaces, including shopping centers, educational institutions, and areas popular with tourists.

In response to the alert, Uganda Police have urged the general public to stay watchful and have assured citizens that they are addressing the situation with the utmost seriousness.

Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, confirmed that security forces are on high alert and fully prepared to respond to any potential threats.

“We cannot take these threats for granted, We are urging the public to remain cautious, particularly in areas that attract large crowds’’ Rusoke sated.

Police have urged the public to take personal responsibility for their safety, particularly regarding the security of private properties.

In light of the U.S. Embassy’s recent security alert, American citizens in Uganda are advised to maintain a low profile, stay aware of their surroundings, and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely updates and assistance in case of emergencies.

Although the Embassy has not provided specific details about the potential threat, it emphasizes the importance of heightened vigilance.

While there is no confirmed information indicating an imminent attack, the alert underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region.

The police have reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors in Kampala, but stress that community awareness and involvement are crucial in preventing any security incidents.
