Luwero, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | Police in Bombo Town Council are actively searching for a suspect accused of fatally assaulting a chef during a funeral gathering.
The victim, Ibrahim Mubiru, a 40-year-old resident of Nkokonjeru Zone in Bombo, Luwero District, was preparing and serving rice at the funeral held in Namaliga Zone, Bombo, last Saturday.
According to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson Sam Twineamazima, the altercation began when a man, identified only as Wilber, requested a second helping of rice.
Chef Mubiru declined the request, stating that other attendees at the funeral needed to be served first. This reportedly angered Wilber, who then struck Mubiru on the head.
Despite the assault, Mubiru continued with his duties after reporting the incident to the Bombo Police.
“Mubiru’s condition deteriorated, and he was rushed to Globo hospital by a colleague for treatment, where he unfortunately passed away,” Twineamazima said.

After Mubiru’s death, residents initially took his body to his father’s home in Nkokonjeru. However, the police later intervened and transferred the body to Luwero Hospital for a postmortem examination.
In the wake of the tragedy, Mubiru’s family and local residents sought revenge by targeting Wilber’s family and attempting to vandalize their home.
This incident has reportedly rekindled existing tribal tensions between the Baganda and Nubian communities in the area.
