Kadaga reveals assassination plot amid rising political tensions
First Deputy Prime Minister and Kamuli District Woman MP, Rebecca Kadaga.

Kamuli, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | First Deputy Prime Minister and Kamuli District Woman MP, Rebecca Kadaga, has expressed concerns about threats to her life.

Speaking during her annual event for the elderly, where attendees share their challenges in hopes of finding solutions, Kadaga hinted at assassination attempts.

Her remarks came in response to complaints raised by Buzaya Constituency MP, Martin Muzaale, about escalating political tensions.

Although Kadaga did not disclose if the threats have been reported to the police or if she has taken additional security measures, she emphasized the need for peace during the electoral process.

Busoga North Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, stated they would only comment if Kadaga officially files a complaint.

However, he confirmed that investigations are underway into claims made by Muzaale regarding an attack on his supporters.

During the same event, held at Wankole Sub-County headquarters in Kamuli District, Muzaale alleged that his political opponents had hired gangs to target him and his supporters.

He described incidents where small groups, usually consisting of five individuals, verbally insulted and physically attacked his political aides at public gatherings.

Muzaale reported that several of his assistants across different sub-counties have been either verbally abused or physically assaulted. In response, Kadaga disclosed that there had been two plots to end her life. She refrained from naming those behind the attempts but provided details of the schemes.

In one instance, a group of sugarcane farmers were allegedly instructed to crash their trucks into her convoy along the Jinja-Kamuli highway, attempting to stage the incident as a traffic accident.

In another, counterfeit currency dealers in Buwagi Trading Center, also on the Jinja-Kamuli highway, were reportedly hired to create chaos and kill her, with the scene framed as a result of unruly youth.

Kadaga claimed that a 15 million shilling down payment had been made to the conspirators, but the plot was exposed.

Political analyst Stephen Muzusa weighed in, noting that the increasing violence within political arenas is limiting youth participation, as many lack the resources and connections to engage in such conflicts.

He further cautioned that if these issues are not addressed, they could shrink democratic spaces and discourage voters from making well-informed choices.
