Kampala socialite Don Nasser remanded over defilement, human trafficking
Socialite Don Nasser, real name Nasser Nduhukire (Right) , and Promise Gatete (Left) have been arraigned before Buganda Road Court on charges of aggravated human trafficking of a minor for sexual exploitation

Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | The Buganda Road Magistrates Court has ordered the remand of socialite Don Nasser, born Nasser Nduhukire, and Promise Ateete to Luzira Prison on charges of human trafficking and defilement.

Nduhukire, who had evaded arrest for several months, was apprehended in Kenya over the weekend and extradited to Uganda to face charges. On Monday, the two appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi, where two counts—aggravated trafficking of a minor for sexual exploitation and defilement—were presented against them.

The prosecution alleged that Nduhukire, along with accomplices still at large, used his influence to lure young girls, particularly students, into sexual exploitation, drug use, and pornography.

In May, he allegedly transported a 16-year-old girl from Tagore Apartments on Acacia Avenue in Kampala and kept her at his residence in Kira Division for four days, from May 23 to 27.

Nduhukire denied the charges during the court session. State prosecutor Ivan Kyazze informed the court that investigations were still ongoing. Nduhukire’s co-accused, Promise Ateete, aged 19, who had previously been granted bail, had her bail revoked following amendments to the charge sheet. Both accused have been remanded to Luzira Prison until October 8, when the case will be heard again.

Nduhukire has been a wanted man since May, after a police report accused him and his associates of drugging and defiling a police officer’s daughter. There are also indications that other victims may be involved in the case.

Don Nasser’s downfall resembles that of other prominent socialites who once flaunted their lavish lifestyles before facing dramatic downfalls.

For instance, Brian Kirumira, also known as Bryan White, faced charges of attempted murder, and after once being a fixture in high circles, including meetings with President Yoweri Museveni, he has now largely disappeared from public attention, with many hardly aware of his whereabouts.

Similarly, Charles Olimi, better known as Sipapa, who once carried himself with a sense of untouchability, was later arrested along with his wife, Shamila Nakiyemba, and charged with multiple counts of aggravated robbery and money laundering.
