Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda as the new Permanent Secretary (PS) for the Ministry of Education and Sports.
The confirmation of her appointment was shared through a congratulatory message from the Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni.
“I congratulate Dr Kedrace Turyagyenda on her appointment as the new Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education,” Mrs Museveni said.
Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda succeeds Ketty Lamaro, who was removed from the role last month as part of President Museveni’s reshuffling of permanent secretaries. During the interim, Dr. Jane Egau Okou, the undersecretary, served in an acting capacity.
In welcoming Dr. Turyagyenda to the position, Mrs. Janet Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports, expressed confidence in the ministry’s resilience, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining a secure and supportive learning environment despite ongoing challenges such as the red-eye outbreak and recent monkeypox cases.
“We take pride in our significant sports victories, both nationally and internationally. We look forward to His Excellency the President’s official reception of the medalists at the Teryet National High Altitude Training Centre,” the First Lady noted.
“The progress in AFCON preparations is praiseworthy. I am optimistic about the swift conclusion of the Sports Bill amendment process and the necessary sub-sector reforms,” she added.

In addition to welcoming Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda as the new Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Janet Museveni commended Dr. Jane Egau Okou for her dedication while serving as Interim PS. She expressed full confidence in Okou’s continued collaboration with Dr. Turyagyenda to strengthen the Ministry of Education and Sports amidst ongoing health challenges.
Dr. Turyagyenda’s biography
Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, an accomplished educationist, has been appointed as the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Prior to this appointment, she served as the Director of Education Standards within the ministry and previously held the position of Commissioner for Secondary Education Standards.
Dr. Turyagyenda is an active member of several governance bodies for educational institutions. She has contributed extensively to education research and has presented numerous papers at international conferences.
She holds a Doctorate in Education Management from Nkumba University, a Master of Science from Leicester University (UK), and both a Bachelor of Science and Diploma in Education from Makerere University in Uganda.
