Nairobi, Kenya | By Michael Wandati | Renowned South African fitness trainer Nkululeko Zane Dlamini, popularly known as the “King of Squats,” has shared insights into his well-toned physique, particularly his impressive glutes, which have sparked curiosity among Kenyans on social media.
Once a professional footballer, Zane played for South Africa’s Jomo Cosmos Football Club before leaving the sport in 2013 to pursue a career in fitness. Over the years, he has gained fame as an aerobics instructor, especially for his focus on exercises that sculpt the glutes.
Now 40, Zane’s dedication to squats has resulted in a physique that many women aspire to achieve. His fitness classes are particularly popular among those looking to tone their glutes, especially ahead of the holiday season.
Despite his success, Zane is aware that his larger-than-average glutes have drawn attention on social media, with some men finding his physique unconventional. He admits that his viral fame isn’t solely due to his overall fitness, but largely because of his distinctive lower body.
Addressing the rumors surrounding his physique, Zane clarified in a recent interview with Nation Lifestyle that there are many misconceptions about how he achieved his muscular glutes. As a fitness instructor and teacher, he dismissed the assumptions, emphasizing that his body is a result of dedication to training, not shortcuts.
“The reason I went viral is because of my body and specifically my butt. I think in Africa and some parts of Europe, it may have been the first time they saw a man with a toned, firm butt. But the truth is, I have always had a firm butt for many years, since my soccer days. It was never an issue until social media came along,” says Zane.
Despite facing judgment and online trolls who accuse him of using growth hormones to enhance his glutes, Nkululeko Zane Dlamini is quick to set the record straight. The fitness trainer firmly denies the claims, attributing his well-defined physique solely to consistent hard work and dedication to his training regimen.
Zane emphasizes that his results are natural and achieved through a disciplined approach to fitness, not through artificial enhancements.
“It is all natural. My butt is the result of hard training and the intensity of my squats. Genetics have also played a part. I can’t help having a big butt, it’s my genes. Everyone in my family has one,” he notes.
But even then, Zane says it took him a long time to build his glutes to where they are now.

“Ever since I was a footballer, it has always been about consistent training. I do an unlimited number of squats a day and eat a lot of protein. Add that to genetics,” he states.
As for those who continue to mock him, Zane remains unfazed. He confidently states that the criticism and jokes about his physique don’t bother him. Instead, he focuses on his fitness journey and the positive impact his work has on others, dismissing negativity with ease.
“It’s not an issue for me. The insults do not bother me. I know some people make fun of the men who come to my classes and say they want big butts too, but they are not looking at the men’s quads and how strong they are. They just focus on my butt,” he adds.
