Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | President Yoweri Museveni is set to meet with US Ambassador William Popp in an effort to address recent diplomatic tensions sparked by his First Son and the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The meeting, scheduled for Thursday at State House Entebbe, will also be attended by Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Foreign Affairs Minister General Jeje Odongo, among other top officials.
This diplomatic engagement follows a controversial ultimatum issued by General Muhoozi, who is also the First Son, last Friday.
In a series of social media posts, Gen. Muhoozi demanded that Ambassador Popp issue a public apology to both President Museveni and the Ugandan people, accusing the US diplomat of engaging in “undiplomatic conduct.”
Gen. Muhoozi warned that if the apology was not made by Monday at 9 a.m., Popp would be expelled from the country.

Although the posts on X (formerly Twitter) were deleted shortly after being published, the diplomatic tension has persisted.
General Muhoozi did not provide specific details about the nature of the alleged misconduct but expressed clear dissatisfaction with Ambassador Popp’s actions.
The US Mission in Uganda has remained largely silent on the issue, aside from refuting claims by some sources suggesting that Ambassador Popp had apologized.
As tensions simmer, Thursday’s meeting is expected to be a crucial moment for resolving the unease between the Ugandan government and the US Embassy.
