Machakos, Kenya | By Michael Wandati | Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi has reportedly gone missing after being taken from his home in Machakos by unidentified individuals on Sunday morning.

In a post shared on her X account, Mwangi’s wife, Njeri Mwangi, confirmed the incident, stating that he was taken around 7:15 a.m. by unknown persons.

The Kampala Dispatch has established that Mwangi is currently held at Kamukunji police station, where family and friends are waiting to get access to him.

“This morning at around 7.15, six uninformed people went to courage base and forcefully took my husband @bonifacemwangi from the house. I have no idea who, why or where they have taken him,” Njeri wrote on X.

This incident occurred just hours after Mwangi publicly announced plans to disrupt the Standard Chartered Marathon by rallying youth to occupy the roads designated for the event. Key roads, including the Dagoretti Road Interchange, Southern Bypass/Ngong Road Interchange, and Southern Bypass/Langata Road Interchange, had been closed to facilitate the marathon.

Mwangi had urged supporters to don hats in national colors and carry flags as part of their attire, along with placards criticizing President William Ruto’s administration. The activist’s mobilization aimed to use the high-profile event to make a political statement.

“This is how; adorn the national flag as part of your sports gear, wear hats with the national colours, wear a bandana with the message RutoMustGo, record protest chants and share online and bring a placard with your message to Ruto,” he said.

“Stay calm and peaceful and have fun!,” he added.
