New Deputy President Kithure Kindiki vows full support for Ruto’s vision for Kenya
Addressing Kenyans shortly after his swearing-in, Kindiki promised to support his boss William Ruto in achieving a more transformed Kenya.

Nairobi, Kenya | By Michael Wandati | Newly appointed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has committed to serving diligently in his role, assuring President William Ruto of his unwavering support.

Speaking after his swearing-in ceremony on Friday, Kindiki, who stepped into office following the October 17 impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, expressed his determination to fulfill his responsibilities in line with Ruto’s leadership.

Kindiki further promised Kenyans that he would work tirelessly alongside President Ruto to drive transformative progress across the nation.

“I have been your political student for nearly 20 years, and nothing has taught me more than the years I have walked and served alongside you in various capacities,” Kindiki said.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has pledged his commitment to serve under President William Ruto, providing the necessary support to help drive Kenya forward. Expressing gratitude to the institutions involved in his smooth transition, Kindiki remarked that recent developments reflect the country’s political maturity and robust institutional framework.

In his address, Kindiki conveyed appreciation to President Ruto for entrusting him with the role, affirming his dedication to advancing the nation’s goals under Ruto’s leadership.

“I affirm that throughout my journey culminating in this moment, I have come to believe that Kenya is a country of possibilities,” Kindiki said.

“For someone like me to stand here and take the oath of the office of Deputy President can only happen in Kenya.”

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi praised the swearing-in of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as a testament to the effectiveness of Kenya’s institutional systems. Mudavadi noted that the seamless transition demonstrated the country’s capacity to uphold governance structures and maintain stability amidst political shifts.

“In Professor Kindiki, we see many virtues. But I want to single out the virtue of humility and simplicity,” Mudavadi said.

“If, as a nation, we embrace humility, we can go very far. But if we disregard humility, it will be very costly,” he added.

At an official ceremony held at Nairobi’s Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Kithure Kindiki was sworn in as Kenya’s new Deputy President. The oath of allegiance was administered by Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Winfrida Mokaya, and witnessed by Chief Justice Martha Koome. The ceremony began at 10:42 a.m., marked by the ceremonial placement of the Judiciary mace.

Kindiki, accompanied by his wife, Dr. Joyce Kithure, was joined by key government and political figures, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and various Cabinet Secretaries and diplomatic representatives.

This event followed a ruling by Justices Eric Ogola, Anthony Mrima, and Dr. Freda Mugambi, who emphasized that leaving the Deputy President’s office vacant would conflict with the Constitution and public interest.

Their decision overturned an earlier conservatory order from the Kerugoya court, which had blocked Kindiki’s swearing-in after his nomination by President Ruto. The judges underscored that maintaining the vacancy would not imply the reinstatement of the impeached Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President.
